How Recruiters Can Find More Job Leads

How Recruiters Can Find More Job Leads Are you always on the hunt for new vacancies to fill? Perhaps you have enough leads but simply want to keep an eye on the market? If I gave you 10 vacancies / jobs today â€" how many would you be able to fill? Be honest with yourselves! The UK Recruiters I have surveyed recently tell me that they fill 2 out of every 10 vacancies that they fill. However, I met a client yesterday who has managed to improve their fill rate by: Focussing on each recruiter and their own fill ratio. Getting that recruiter to go through a process of qualifying and being realistic about the quality of their leads. 10 Reasons why Recruiters Need More Job Leads: Finding job leads / vacancies is a crucial part of every recruiter’s role.   Every recruiter needs to: Know more about their sector. Gain inspiration on writing their next advert (or perhaps plagiarise?). See what their pesky competitors are up to. See what their ever-so-savvy clients are up to. Research skills bases. Research market expectations. Gage salaries / market trends. Demonstrate how clever they are. Increase the probability of finding the equivalent of the purple squirrel in job terms. And what every agency recruiter really MUST do is HAVE MORE CHOICE OVER WHAT THEY WORK! (number 10!) Imagine Having More Job Leads Imagine a day when you can cull vacancies which you have no chance of filling.   Imagine a day when the jobs you advertise are a complete and accurate indication of your approach, client base and expertise.   How about giving yourself a break from working jobs where the client has engaged with 20 other recruiters and saying “No thanks”.   I know the recession was hard and I know that the word “no” seems to have been replaced with “oh, ok then” but this is just not great business sense. Generating Job Leads Using Social Media: Here are a couple of tips, and if you really want to go to town, see the slide deck at the bottom which has another 10. On your LinkedIn Homepage there are 2 gorgeous places where you can see job leads: A little button called  All Updates. Click it, choose Jobs… there may be some gold in there! Check out the  Jobs You May Be Interested In  widget (down the right hand side of your home screen). This looks at your profile, keyword matches to jobs on the LinkedIn Jobs database (currently 300,000) and does a lovely piece if personal shopping (lead generation)  for you. Heaven forbid you cross off the ones you are not interested in (thus training the system to work better for you), or press the  See more  option and look for more / set up email alerts that would just be too easy! Take a peak and see what results you get. Lots of my clients generate leads from these cute features. Dont use the excuse that you have enough leads I bet some of your leads youd dump if you could find better ones. Want to improve your fill ratio?

Having The Talk

Having The Talk Which talk am I talking about? Well really there are two the talk to get into a relationship and the talk to get out of a relationship. Both talks are awkward, difficult, could potentially blow up in your face, and are completely necessary. For any relationship to progress, the talk must be had. So how do you handle such difficult and relationship-altering conversations? The only way-    in person. Like  most people my age, Im an avid texter and have lost basic communication skills due to the digital crutch. And as much as I want to hide this difficult subject underneath some subtle text message lingo, there is no way to get around an in person conversation for this one. To have the talk, youve got to be able to read the others face. Say youre head over heels about a guy and want to go steady with him- if you tell him this in person and he makes a face like he just saw a ghost, probably not a good sign. Same goes for the break-up talk. You arent feeling the relationship anymore and need to call it off- dont you want to see the look of pain in the others face?? Okay- that is really mean of me and not true (ish) But the other does deserves the decency of hearing it from you in person. Ive done the talk in all different ways- text, phone, mid-makeout session, skywriting (I wish). The only way to make it as clear as day and to make sure that you both are totally on the same page is in person. So as much as it may hurt, or make you feel awkward, or in my case- make you feel like you are about to throw up under water, it must be done. And done in person. After the fact, whichever path the relationship might take, youll know you started the next step of your journey on the right foot. So what do you think? Do you have any tips for having the talk? Lets have ourselves our own  talk. Happy Thursday yall! And if you have any ideas for an upcoming column, let me know!

How to Use Good Words on Resume?

How to Use Good Words on Resume?Using good words on resume is essential for you to make a good impression on the person to whom you are applying. A resume that is professional and has good words used in it is much more effective than a resume which is composed with poor language.Professional Resume writers have observed that many people tend to use poor words on resume. They tend to use wrong words in resume that reflects badly on their character. There are certain rules to follow while writing resume. To make your resume written in a perfect word professional format, one has to follow some standards. One of these standards is that one should avoid using adjectives which are self-explanatory like 'smart', 'stylish' and so on. Use only those words that are descriptive and not self-explanatory. One should also avoid writing something which is obvious and direct. Before writing your resume, one should write down in writing all the ideas that have been running through one's mind. Do not ma ke a mistake of putting in false or unproductive ideas. In writing down one's ideas, one should be conscious about how your ideas are going to get into print and are likely to be read by anyone who reads your resume. If you wish to put a photograph in your resume, it should be of the picture itself. How to get back to work -

How to get back to work - Are you part of the 2 million people (mostly women) in the “career relaunch” pool? Are you trying to figure out your next career move to re-enter the workforce after taking time to go back to school, raise children, care for family members, travel, etc.? Perhaps finding a new job is significantly more difficult than anticipated. How can you get back to work?Mom Corps, a professional staffing and career development firm that caters to professionals looking for alternative work options, released its third annual workplace survey commissioned through Harris Interactive. The survey reports 55 percent of working women surveyed agreed that taking a significant amount of time out of the workforce would set their career back. When it is time to re-enter the paid workforce, this reality really hits home. Many find re-entry to former career levels nearly impossible. However, all is not lost. Get my free white paper:  5 Mistakes Preventing You From Landing a Job This Week   With a strategic plan and strong job search focus, it is possible to land a new job, even if you’ve been out of the workforce for several years. Allison OKelly, CEO and founder of Mom Corps, suggests the following six steps to create your re-entry plan. 1. Evaluate what you want to do professionally. Perhaps you’d like to re-enter the workforce doing the same type of job you had before you left. Maybe your feelings about your profession have changed since you last worked and you’d prefer to shift into a new field or role. It’s impossible to land a job before you have a clear vision of what you want to do; it’s like trying to find a location without directions or a map. Spend time identifying your goals so you have a clear endpoint in mind. 2. Be sure you can commit to your choice personally. Are you prepared to make the expected sacrifices in your personal life to get the job done successfully? If there are long hours or travel involved, make sure you’re prepared to manage those aspects of the position when you do land a job. It’s not wise to decide to figure it out later. Plan ahead and apply for positions you know you would be happy doing. “Have realistic expectations and criteria for evaluating opportunities,” OKelly says. 3. Understand your skills. Make a list of your expertise from previous jobs, community commitments and any volunteer work you’ve done. Narrow down your top skills and determine what words employers would use to find someone like you to hire. These keywords should populate your résumé and online profiles. “Don’t forget to ask your friends to help you identify your strengths. Look for opportunities that match these skills,” OKelly suggests. 4. Avoid time gaps on your résumé and online profiles. “Fill the gaps in your résumé with strategic volunteering and contract work, OKelly says. Note the word strategic â€" look for opportunities that are relevant to the career you want to pursue or will help build skills you are lacking. Résumé gaps are better than irrelevant fluff.” 5. Network. Never underestimate the value of every networking opportunity. Network at the grocery store, at the gym and at professional events. Don’t bombard your friends with requests for referrals to jobs. Focus instead on letting people know you are ready to re-engage in the workforce. For example, let your friends know you’re reading industry news and plugging back into your professional background. If you use Facebook, start posting links to work-related items. Use social media tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+ to let your network know when you attend professional events and to share insights people who might want to hire you would appreciate. 6. Look for steppingstones. Sometimes, you need to take baby steps before you can run a marathon. “Your first job when you re-enter the workforce may not meet every single standard you desire, but look at its long-term potential and whether it will get you closer to your ideal career,” OKelly explains. Incorporate growth potential as a factor when evaluating a possible job. Maybe it is a step or two back from where you’d like to be, but if the company is growing and you anticipate impressing your superiors, you’ll be well on your way to a successful relaunch. Re-entry doesnt have to be overly daunting. Be open to new and different opportunities to leverage your experience, skills and connections in a way that make sense for you, and you may find yourself back at work sooner than you think.
